Known for its translucent golden segments, Thanh Tra pomelo is not overly juicy but offers a sweet, fragrant taste that lingers long in memory. Some say its exceptional aroma results from Hue’s unique four-season climate, fertile alluvial soil, and the pure waters of the Perfume River.
Traditionally, Hue residents dried Thanh Tra peel after eating the fruit, hanging it in their kitchens for year-round use. When someone caught a cold, the dried peel was boiled with leaves to make a steam remedy. Women used the peel alongside bồ kết (soapberries) and lemongrass leaves to wash and nourish their hair.
